When a literature is written in English, it is definitely English literature. This includes writers who wrote their works in English even if they are not English regarding their origins.Examples for this are too many such as Robert Burns, James Joyce, Joseph Conrad, Dylan Thomas and others. All those previously mentioned writers enriched the English literature with their writings that were good enough to be as remarkable as great English writings of writers from English origins. In fact most writers who used the English language to write were of colonized countries by the British. Shakespeare was the most writer to be recalled in mind when talking about the English literature for most people of whom I am. American literature is also considered of the English literature yet is considered a very significant kind of English literature as there are many outstanding writers from America who presented extra fine works in the English language.
